Sri Lankan fast bowler, Lasith Malinga has decided to play a Domestic One Day tournament instead of the Indian Indian Premier League.
He had to represent the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2019 season and Sri Lanka Cricket Board last week issued a NOC for participating in the IPL. According to Sri Lankan Chief National selector, Asantha De Mel, Malinga wants to play the Domestic One Day tournament, and hence he refused to participate in the IPL. He said that Fast bowler will return home from India on Wednesday and will lead the Galle in the Domestic Tournament.
Sri Lankan domestic One-Day cup will start from April 4 and will conclude on 11th April this month. The tournament is seen as a World Cup team selection trial ahead of mega event in England this year.
“Yes, he (Malinga) will be reaching Sri Lanka tomorrow and will be available for the provincial tournament.” Sri Lanka’s chief selector Asantha de Mel said while speaking to Sportstar.
Mumbai Indians signed Malinga for 2 crore Indian Rupees in auction last year. Now Mumbai Indians have to find his replacement and as per latest news they signed Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff .
